Alert / Trade advisory – Typhoon Impact on Shanghai & Ningbo ports – Potential Shipping delays in Northern China (Qingdao, Ningbo & Shanghai)

Dear Clients & Partners

Our recent freight briefs have covered the impact of Typhoon Dolphine on the East Coast of China – and mounting port congestion in the North of China. We now need to advise that Typhoon Saudel is expected to impact the Shanghai and Ningbo regions in China between 27 and 28 August 2026.

Precautionary safety measures:

Certain terminal operations have temporarily been suspended:

  • Ningbo Port: Empty container collections and deliveries were suspended from 16:00 to 20:00 (China local time) on 26 August.
  • Shanghai Yangshan Terminal: Empty container collections and deliveries were suspended from 04:00 to 06:00 (China local time) on 27 August.
  • Shanghai Waigaoqiao Terminal: Empty container collections and deliveries were suspended from 14:00 (China local time) on 27 August. A reopening time has not yet been confirmed.

Expected Impact

The temporary closure of terminal operations may result in:

  • Delays to vessel schedules.
  • Port congestion in Shanghai and Ningbo.
  • Possible knock-on delays to import and export shipments.

Inter-Sped is closely monitoring the situation with shipping lines, terminals, and our team in China. Further updates will follow on an individual shipment level.

As always, the Inter-Sped team and I ready to assist on any of your freight and logistic requirements.

Best Regards
Linda & The Inter-Sped Team
