Freight and Logistics update relating to the unfolding Russian-Ukraine Crisis war

Global Impact:

  1. The impact on Oil / Fuel prices will likely increase freight costs which are already running at historic highs.
  2. Demand for Sea Freight from China to Europe will likely increase as Imports move away from Rail solutions that run across or close to Russia & Ukraine – The additional demand being another driver pushing up demand and prices.
  3. Demand for Air Freight is likely to see another spike as importers & exports respond to circumstances.
  4. Increased transit times, Delays & congestion across modes of Transport will likely be seen as carriers adjust to increased demand, and possibly and possible route and schedule changes.
  5. Concerns of Cyber-attacks targeting Freight & Logistics supply chains are increasingly being voiced. The Cyber attack that hit Maersk in 2017, as well as the recent Cyber-attacks that have hit a major American freight agent as well as the Indian Port of Nhava Sheva have been put forward as examples of the kinds of risks that could be faced.
